I was on the radio

… talking about women serving in combat with several distinguished female military members, and several very silly people. One of them was both.

It’s here at the BBC’s World Have Your Say (right-click and select “Save target as…” to download the podcast. I don’t show up until near the end, but I thought I got a decent point or two in.

My main contention — since much of the other heavy lifting had already been done by the female soldiers on the panel — was that this notion of women in combat units being “distractions” is fairly appalling, especially given the U.S. military’s insistence on professionalism. Not freaking out around girls is a pretty low bar to set for professionalism in my book, and if you can’t pull that off, the odds are good that you shouldn’t be handling firearms.

Update: I had the wrong podcast linked initially, so I fixed that.
